Video updates from the Derriford Transport Scheme
Scheme
The Derriford Transport Scheme has created extra lanes and capacity on the A386 Tavistock Road between Crownhill and Derriford Roundabout.
It has also provided bus priority measures at Derriford Roundabout and the William Prance Road junction, as well as new cycle lanes, improved crossings and more modern and efficient traffic signals.
Walking and cycling improvements have extended north of the roundabout towards the George Park and Ride, as part of the Northern Corridor Walking and Cycling Improvement Scheme.
The Heart-of-the-South-West Local Enterprise Partnership (HotSW LEP) contributed £10.16 towards the £13.859 million scheme.
Benefits
The scheme will provide more capacity for the large volumes of traffic using this route and help reduce congestion, particularly at peak times.
It will also provide better public transport, walking and cycling links, improving journey times for all road users.
Proposed developments in the northern corridor growth area could see around 4,300 new homes, as well as a new district centre, new shops and businesses and a new school.
This will increase the number of people travelling to and from the north of Plymouth and put further pressure on the road network, which makes these improvements even more vital.
The Derriford Transport Scheme will complement other major infrastructure improvement projects in the area including the proposed Forder Valley Link Road and Woolwell to The George scheme, as well as recently completed Marjon Link Road and Derriford Hospital Interchange.
